Scott Bankaitis

Scott Bankaitis began his rugby career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in the spring of 2008. For the remainder of his freshman and sophomore years, he played B-side scrumhalf while also competing on the RPI varsity swim team. After earning the A-side scrumhalf position at the beginning of his junior year, Scott stopped swimming to focus on rugby full time. In his senior year, RPI was a perfect 6-0 in league play and advanced to the Northeast Regional playoffs, being eliminated by the eventual Division II National runner-ups.

In 2011 Scott moved to the Southern Tier and continued to play rugby with the Elmira Rugby Football Club and with the RPI Alumni side, starting at scrumhalf for both teams. The Elmira team eventually folded, but he continued to play in several tournaments a year with the RPI Alumni. In 2016, Coach Bob McGee founded the Corning Rugby Club and Scott joined as an Assistant Coach. After meeting Coach Mike and Coach Craig, Scott began playing at the men’s club level again, playing with South Buffalo for one season before joining the Binghamton Barbarians.

Scott holds a USA Rugby Level 100 Coaching Certification and is eager to contribute to the growth of rugby in the area. Scott is an engineer at Mirion Technologies in Big Flats, helping to manufacture products for the nuclear power industry.
